USS Hopewell DD-681 Reunion 2010 BIGGER and BETTER in Nashville, TN

NEWS:  Reunion 2012 set for Galveston Texas, Oct 1 thru 5th, 2012.  I am working on a website for the reunion, but until I put a link on here, this is where the news will be.  Please send Ken Davis your contact information at <>  Try your hardest to be there, we aren't getting any younger;).

FOR THOSE ONBOARD in Spring of 1962 on the Johnston Island nuclear tests.  Jack Natter sent the attached PDF brochure from the VA.  Click here: PDF1

Latest Underwater exploration of Hopewell in her final resting place off San Clemente Island, about 50 miles, sw.

Just because Chief Dale Taylor was one of my mentors on Hopewell when I was a wet behind the ears Ensign, here is a picture of Dale with his grandson Dale.  Grandson Dale looks like he could hold his own in a pub brawl or at the Block Arena, in Pearl.

OK HEALTHCARE: MEDICARE, TRICARE AND OBAMA CARE.  I created a PDF version of an address given by a retired USN Admiral and MD. Keep in mind:  THIS IS HIS OPINION AND DOES NOT AGREE WITH THAT OF THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION.  This is a copy of a recent speech given to the USNA Alumni San Diego Chapter monthly luncheon. It's an excellent explanation of the current complex situation regarding our medical benefits. PLEASE click here to go to the PDF file and you can download/save/or print it to read at your leisure.

NOW you can continue browsing...thank you.

OK, most of us survived 2010 and many of us enjoyed a great time in Nashville thanks to Ken Davis and Ken Rigsby...NOW  our next challenge is to  survive 2011 and about half of 2012 so we can get together in Jersey City for our 2012 New York Reunion.  More on this when I know more, but Ken Davis, our President confided in me that T J Pareti and his lovely wife, Mary Murphy, are taking care of the arrangements for a great New York reunion.

Anyone recognize the two handsome gentlemen in this picture taken a few nights ago in San Diego?

WARNING TO VETERANS - Forwarded by Kevin Secor, VSO Liaison, Office of the Secretary of the Department of Veterans Affairs.

An organization called Veterans Affairs Services (VAS) is providing benefit and general information on VA and gathering personal information on veterans. This organization is not affiliated with VA in any way.

VAS may be gaining access to military personnel through their close resemblance to the VA name and seal. Our Legal Counsel has requested that we coordinate with DoD to inform military installations, particularly mobilization sites, of this group and their lack of affiliation or endorsement by VA to provide any services.

In addition, GC requests that if you have any examples of VAS acts that violate chapter 59 of Title 38 United States Code, such as VAS employees assisting veterans in the preparation and presentation of claims for benefits, please pass any additional information to Mr.Daugherty at the address below.

Thank you Ken Davis and Ken Rigsby, and their loving helpmates, for a Great Reunion!  We know that Anita and Florence helped enormously to make this a wonderful experience for all of us, also.

To Ken Davis,

The Officers and Crew of the USS Hopewell DD-681 send you our heartfelt condolences, our love and our prayers on the unexpected and sudden passing of your beloved wife, Anita.  The world is better for her having been here and a sadder place without her.

We love her and we love you.

AND EVEN MORE:  Ken has identified a company that sells really top notch ship models.  You can go to their site by clicking here  Ken adds: This is an excellent company if anyone wishes to purchase models for a building project.
Keith Mullen is the new owner and is very helpful and easy to work with. He lives in Arizona. I purchased a model of the Fletcher Class Destroyer to build for our reunion but I don't think I will finish it in time.
Keith has agreed to donate two Fletcher Class Destroyer kits (with all options) for our raffle at the reunion. These kits cost about $400.00 each so this is a very generous donation. He is a former Navy man and served on the USS Adams DDG2.

NEWS:  Our guest speaker in San Diego, Capt. Peter Gumatautau, USN, is now Rear Admiral Peter Gumatautau, USN, which I think we all kind of knew he would be selected.  A truly extraordinary man.  Brad Mills provided this information to us.
